I have to say that my favorite time in Gion was when I experienced an authentic Ryokan Experience. One of the Ryokan hotels is in Gion and before you set foot into the building, you need to remove your dirty shoes and put on a pair of slippers. I simply loved that my breakfast and dinner was brought to my room, where I could eat at my 30cm high table while sitting in a chair without legs. I was able to begin each day without rushing out to a dining room and end my day in a space by myself. This experience allowed me to focus more on the food I was eating as well as myself. In the late evening, my futon was always prepared, so that it was ready for me to climb in to when I was ready for bed.
